Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP): A New Path Forward When You’ve Tried Everything Else

At ME Psychotherapy, we believe that healing happens where science and compassion meet. That’s why we’re proud to offer Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP), a supportive, innovative treatment for people who feel stuck or haven’t found relief with traditional approaches.

If you’ve tried medications, talk therapy, and lifestyle changes and still find yourself struggling, KAP may offer the breakthrough you’ve been looking for.

How It Works

Ketamine supports neuroplasticity—the brain’s remarkable ability to rewire, adapt, and heal. At ME Psychotherapy, ketamine is administered in low, carefully monitored doses through oral troches (dissolving tablets) and, in time, intramuscular (IM) injections. We do not use IV or nasal forms of ketamine.

These methods provide a gentler, more accessible approach that still allows for deep therapeutic work. Each session is conducted under medical and therapeutic supervision to ensure your safety and comfort while you explore new emotional and cognitive pathways.

Current Prescribing Process

We currently partner with PVD Ketamine & Wellness for all KAP-related prescribing. Before beginning treatment, clients schedule a separate medical evaluation with PVD Ketamine. After the evaluation, clients may pick up their medication in person or have it mailed to them, depending on their preference.

Clients then bring the medication with them to each session at ME Psychotherapy, where all KAP sessions take place with one of our trained KAP providers.

Coming Soon: On-Site Prescribing and Medication Access

By spring 2026, ME Psychotherapy will offer full on-site prescribing and medication access in both our Providence and Narragansett offices. This expansion will allow clients to complete the entire process—medical clearance, prescription, medication pickup or delivery, and therapeutic sessions—all within our practice.

The Science Behind KAP

Over the last two decades, research has shown that ketamine can rapidly relieve symptoms of depression, even when other treatments haven’t worked. Studies also suggest benefits for anxiety disorders, PTSD, and certain types of chronic pain.

Scientists believe ketamine helps “reset” disrupted brain circuits involved in mood regulation while increasing levels of glutamate, a neurotransmitter that fuels neural growth and repair. Ongoing studies are exploring how ketamine may support trauma recovery, enhance mindfulness, and promote long-term emotional flexibility when combined with psychotherapy—which is exactly what KAP offers.

The Experience: What a KAP Journey Feels Like

Each KAP journey is unique. Some describe the experience as lightness or connection; others note emotional release or meaningful insight.

Sessions typically last about 90 minutes, with time before and after to ground and reflect. Your therapist remains present throughout, helping you navigate the emotional and sensory aspects of the experience.

Over time, clients often report greater clarity, reduced emotional reactivity, improved mood, and a renewed sense of purpose.

Safety, Screening, and Eligibility

KAP is safe and well-tolerated when administered under medical supervision. However, it is not suitable for everyone. People with a history of psychosis, uncontrolled high blood pressure, certain heart conditions, or substance use disorders may not be eligible.

Our team conducts a thorough screening before beginning treatment to ensure KAP is a safe and appropriate option for you.

Possible Side Effects: Mild dissociation, dizziness, or nausea can occur temporarily during treatment. These effects are closely monitored and typically resolve shortly after the session.

The ME Psychotherapy Approach

At ME Psychotherapy, KAP isn’t a stand-alone intervention—it’s part of a holistic healing process. Our integrative model combines:

  • Evidence-based psychotherapy

  • Mindfulness and grounding practices

  • Ongoing support and integration sessions

We believe that healing is relational, built on trust, curiosity, and compassion. Every KAP session is guided with care, intention, and respect for your inner experience.

Change is possible, even when it hasn’t felt that way for a long time. With compassion, science, and guidance, you can begin to feel like yourself again. Contact our team to start your KAP journey—a process of rediscovery, resilience, and renewal.

Payment and Pricing for KAP Sessions

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy requires extended appointment times to ensure your safety, comfort, and adequate integration support. Because these sessions last 2 to 2.5 hours, they are not covered by insurance.

The fee for each KAP session is $400.

We offer a reduced rate for current ME Psychotherapy clients as part of our commitment to accessibility and continuity of care. Please contact our office for details about eligibility and pricing.
